Building Envelope Library
Reference guide to pre-built construction assemblies and the custom assembly editor.
Pre-Built Assemblies
The library includes common residential construction types with pre-calculated R-values and U-factors. Wall assemblies cover 2x4 and 2x6 wood frame at 16-inch on-center spacing with various cavity insulation options (R-11 through R-21), continuous insulation options (R-5, R-10), SIP panels (4.5, 6.5, and 8.25 inch), ICF (6 and 8 inch core), CMU with insulation, steel frame with thermal break, and log wall.
Roof and ceiling assemblies cover attic configurations with blown cellulose or fiberglass (R-30 through R-60), cathedral ceilings, flat roofs with rigid insulation, and metal roofs. Floor assemblies cover slab-on-grade (with perimeter insulation options), crawlspace (vented and conditioned), and basement configurations.
Custom Assembly Editor
For non-standard constructions, the custom assembly editor lets you define the assembly layer by layer. Specify each material (drywall, stud, insulation, sheathing, siding, etc.) with its thickness and R-value per inch. The editor automatically sums R-values, applies the framing fraction correction factor for thermal bridging (per ASHRAE parallel path method), and adds inside and outside air film resistances.
The calculated overall R-value and U-factor are displayed as you build the assembly, so you can see the thermal impact of each layer.
